Planning our fieldwork

Next week the children will be carrying out an investigation in their local area. As a group we discussed the possible questions they would like to find out about. As a cohort they have decided on: What are the different types of shops in Cowes?; Why have  you visited Cowes today?; what mode of transport brought you to Cowes? and Do you  think Cowes is a good place to shop?

First, the children made a prediction about the type of shop there will be more of. The children decided they will use a tally chart to record their findings for the types of shops but they will record the other answers separately. As the children will be in groups with a designated adult they will be able to ask questions to some of the public to find out their answers.

The children then drew a route from school to Cowes high street.
