MUSIC

Today Year 5 were listening to and responding to the music “Londonderry Air” and the lyrics of “Danny Boy”. They discovered this is the Anthem for Northern Ireland in the Commonwealth Games. They also learnt that the music was written around the 1850’s while the lyrics were added in the early 20th Century.

For most of the children it made them feel calm and relaxed, proud, sad and thoughtful. Images in their mind were fields and flowers, birds and butterflies, mountains, castles, snow, war and poppies and many other images linked to nature.

They then had time to practice some of the songs for the carol service.
