MUSIC - research the traditions around Christmas Carols

Year 5 have spent some time this afternoon researching the traditions behind Christmas Carols from around the World.

They discovered not all countries celebrate Christmas, in Israel Christmas Day is a normal working day, Silent Night was first written around 1818 by a Priest and was only translated to English in 1859, St Francis of Assisi first started the Nativity Play in 1223 and the earliest carol written was in 1410 - it was about Mary and a Joseph meeting different people in Bethlehem.

Some very interesting facts!
